Because this premium turf is incredibly dense, improper base preparation or incorrect seaming will result in poor drainage and visible lines. Clear out existing grass, roots, and topsoil to a standard depth of 3 to 4 inches. Lay down a heavy-duty commercial weed fabric over the excavated dirt to prevent organic growth while maintaining downward water drainage. Spread a 3-inch layer of ¾-inch crushed rock or road base to form the structural foundation. Compact it thoroughly using a vibrating plate compactor. Add a final ½-inch layer of fine crusher dust (Decomposed Granite or limestone fines). Screen and smooth this layer to create a perfectly level surface with a slight 1% slope directed away from building foundations for water runoff.
