Slope the underlying subgrade at a minimum 0.5% grade toward a dedicated drainage collector trench or the perimeter drainage zone to prevent pooling under the backing matrix. Firmly pack the raw soil base using a heavy mechanical vibrating plate compactor. Unroll a premium geotextile filter fabric or weed block over the entire compacted dirt subgrade. This barrier isolates the aggregate stone from the soil, halts weed penetration, and prevents shifting.
