Synthetic Turf International (STI) SoftLawn® Prime Rye installations require a precise, multi-layered sub-base and anchoring system to support its heavy 87 oz. total weight and 1 5/8-inch pile height. Dig out the native soil to a minimum depth of 4 to 6 inches, sloping the subgrade floor at a 0.5% grade toward a dedicated drainage exit or collector trench. Run a mechanical plate compactor over the bare soil to eliminate loose air pockets, stabilizing the foundation before laying any stone aggregate. Roll a heavy-duty geotextile filter fabric across the entire subgrade floor and up the sides of the perimeter walls. This prevents native mud from squeezing up into your clean stone layers. Spread a 4-inch deep layer of 3/4-inch turf aggregate stone (such as crushed road base or road rock) across the fabric. Compact this layer thoroughly in 2-inch increments.

The manufacturer guarantees that the turf will not experience severe fading, yarn breakdown, or ultraviolet degradation. Significant fading is technically defined as a color loss exceeding an average of 5% annually. The turf backing and face fibers are guaranteed not to rot, mildew, or lose more than 50% of their structural tensile strength under standard atmospheric exposure. Under normal foot traffic conditions and with properly maintained aggregate infill levels, the turf is guaranteed not to lose more than 50% of its factory pile height. Covers fundamental manufacturing errors—such as loose stitching, premature fiber splitting, or delamination of the primary backing from the secondary coating—for 1 year from the shipment date.
