Dig out the existing sod and soil to a full depth of 4 inches to give this thick, heavy turf a flush finish against surrounding hardscapes. Lay a commercial-grade, non-woven geotextile weed fabric directly over the dirt floor to keep the base aggregates from sinking into the subsoil. Spread 3 to 4 inches of Decomposed Granite (DG) or 3/8-inch crushed limestone. Heavily moisten the aggregate base and run a motorized vibratory plate compactor over it in a cross-pattern. The base must be compacted to a strict 95% density threshold to perfectly support the 100 oz. weight.
